Document preferences: certificates, date format & notifications

A handful of account-wide preferences live in Settings → General & Billing, under Compliance & Audit Trail, Document Preferences, and Notification Preferences. Each one saves immediately when you change it — there's no separate save button for these toggles.

Certificate of Completion

Include Certificate of Completion in finalized PDFs — when turned on (the default), every PDF you finalize gets a tamper-evident audit page appended, listing signers, timestamps, IP addresses, and consent records. This is recommended for ESIGN Act / UETA compliance and is available on every plan, including Free. You can also download this certificate separately at any time — see Downloading signed documents and audit records.

Default date format

Starter and Starter Team plans.

Choose how dates are formatted on your signed documents:

  • International StandardYYYY-MM-DD
  • USA FormatMM-DD-YYYY
  • EU FormatDD-MM-YYYY

Pick one and click Save Preferences. On the Free plan, this is locked with an upgrade prompt.

Notification preferences

Two independent toggles control what email notifications you get about your sent documents:

  • Document Signed Notifications — an email each time a recipient signs. Available on every plan, including Free.
  • Document Viewed Notifications — an email each time a recipient opens your document, even before they sign. Starter and Starter Team only.

Note: These two look identical in the UI, but their plan gating is opposite — Signed notifications are free for everyone, Viewed notifications are paid-only. Don't assume they're both free (or both paid) just because they're right next to each other.
