Creating and sharing public signing links

A public signing link is a reusable URL you can post anywhere — on your website, in an email blast, in a Slack channel — that lets anyone open it, verify their identity by email, and sign their own private copy of your document. Unlike a normal document, it's not pre-addressed to one specific person, and it can be used over and over by different people.

Requires an active Starter or Starter Team subscription.

Requirements

Public links can only be created from a template with exactly one recipient slot. If your template has more than one signer, it won't be selectable — create or edit a one-signer template first.

  1. Go to Templates, and click Public Link on a one-signer template (or go to Public Links in the sidebar and click Create public link, then choose your template from the dropdown).
  2. Choose whether to keep Auto-release final PDF on — this controls whether the finished document is released automatically once each person finishes signing.
  3. Optionally set an expiration date and time. Leave it blank to keep the link active indefinitely, until you pause or rotate it yourself.
  4. Click Create public link.
  5. Copy the generated URL with the Copy button and share it however you like.

Every person who verifies their email through the link gets their own separate, independent copy of the document to fill out and sign — including if the same email address is used more than once (duplicate submissions are allowed by design, useful for something like a recurring weekly form).

Why can't I create one?

  • You're on the Free plan, or your subscription has lapsed. Public links require an active paid subscription to create — and to stay usable by signers. If your subscription lapses, existing links stop working for new signers, though you can still view and manage them.
  • Your template has more than one signer. Public links only support single-signer templates.
